Why are you applying for your chosen course(s)?
I am applying for Games Design because I am a passionate and creative individual who wishes to create interactive art. I have been passionate about video games since I was a child and have become gained huge amounts of knowledge about the industry. I am heavily interested in the aspects of the industry because I have seen how people have converged together to combine their skills and create masterpieces.
Why does this subject interest you?
Games Design interests me because I would love
to work in a team with other people to create games as I could gain experience
and get better at doing Games Design as a whole. In Games Design, there is a
wide variety of different things to do which I really like since that I have
the chance to practice all aspects of the game creation series as I can learn
about Art Design, Sounds Design, Programming, Level Design and much more which
I think is really good as it gives me a choice and I like pretty much all areas
of the course. This subject also interests me because I could learn new skills
that I didn't know before that could help me improve at what I love to do.
Why do you think you're suitable for the
course(s)?
I think I am suitable because I put a lot of
effort into my work and I really enjoy doing Games Design as I think that I
could work well in a team and individually. I love creating art for video games
for pretty much anything whether it be concept art, character art or
environments, as I like to spend a lot of time and effort creating the piece so
it fits with the theme and has lots of detail in the piece itself. I love using
my imagination to come up with a lot of different ideas for the video game and
potentially things such as character design or story creation which I think
sounds really interesting and fun to do as it would allow me to create my own
characters and stories that could perform a role in a video game.
Do your current or previous studies relate to the
course(s) that you have chosen?
In high school, I did GCSE Art which I believe
relates to the course in various ways as a video game would need as in this
subject, I focused on creating a variety of different environments and objects
as I also used many different materials to create these. This can help me as I
can create images of certain environments and objects which could be created
and used in a game.
I have also done 2 years of Games Design in
college which has allowed me to learn new things about games such as the
process of how games are created and I have learned other things like creating
and capturing different sounds that can be used in video games, creating
different textures, Sprites and models, I learned how to use events in certain
programs such as construct 2 properly so I could get my 2D games to work. I
have learned how to use several programs that I think could help me in the
games and media industry as I have used programs like Photoshop, Blender,
Unity, Construct 2, Illustrator, Reaper, Adobe Premiere Pro etc.
Have you taken part in any other activities that
demonstrate your interest in the course(s)?
At home, I spend a lot of time playing video
games and I have spent a lot of time playing a wide variety of different video
games with many different genres. I think this gives me an advantage because I
know what games are about and what makes a good game, which makes me believe
that I could perform a really good role in the games industry because I can
play a game and give reasons why I enjoyed the game and reasons why I don't
like the game and other things that could affect the game such as bugs and
glitches. I have also participated first aid which is very useful because I
know what to do if somebody was to collapse or become unconscious as it could
result in saving someone’s life.
Universities like to know the skills you have that
will help you on the course, or generally with life at university. List these
skills here and any supporting evidence to back up why you are so excited about
the courses you have chosen.
I can use a range of different programs which
relate to games design and creating different things, as I know how to use
Construct 2, which is a program that is used to created 2D games where you can
create your own mechanics and commands so that you can create your own game
that you program and create yourself. I have also used Photoshop quite a lot in
college and at home to edit image and create images as I have used different
effects and adjustments to edit and create different images that had a nice
effect. I have used 3D modelling programs such as Blender and Unity which I
have used to create a 3D environment and models in my work and I enjoyed doing
this because I was learning how to use the program properly and I learnt how to
use the different tools and techniques within the program to make the
environment look a lot nicer. I have used Adobe Illustrator to create vector
images for some ideas about a game I was creating, As I created an image using
vector lines and this was a good technique because I could create smooth
looking 2D vector images that I could use for things such as sprites and logos.

If you know what you’d like to do after completing the course, explain how you want to use the knowledge and experience that you gain.
I would like to use the experience I gain from completing the course by becoming a role in the game industry where I can contribute with games where I start at the bottom and work my way up to the top. I would like to try multiple roles in the games industry to find out which one I enjoy the most and also which one I perform the best in. I would like to participate in a team as we could work together to create aspects for the game as I could learn new techniques and I could also get better communication skills. I like to put quite a lot of effort into most of the work as I want the game to perform well and visually look appealing.
V3
I am applying for Games Design because I am a passionate and
creative individual who wishes to create interactive art. I have been
passionate about video games since I was a child and have gained huge amounts
of knowledge about the industry by doing continuous research using resources
such as the internet and college. I am heavily interested in the aspects of the
industry because I have seen how people have converged together to combine
their skills and create masterpieces. Games Design interests me because I would
love to work in a team with other people to create games as I could gain
experience and get better at doing Games Design as a whole. This course will
allow me to continue to learn about each area of the gaming industry and I will
be able to learn new skills and gain more knowledge about the industry as a
whole which would hopefully benefit me in the future whilst looking for
employment in the games industry. I believe that I am suitable for this course
because I put a lot of effort into the work that I produce and I think that I
could contribute well in a team as I would try my best to meet all of the
deadlines so that I don't let any of my team down. I enjoy creating different
pieces of art using in both hand drawn and digital form, where I like to let my
imagine take over and create original and unique game environments that are effective.
I strive to come up with a range of imaginative and creative video game ideas that
could be used or contribute towards a games story which would enhance and make
the original story much better and potentially more enjoyable by the audience. Completing
GCSE Art and Design in High School enabled me to focus on creating art related
to still life images and environments which relates to the games artist
industry, this experience has allowed me to gain the skills in drawing and
using different textures for creating art for video games. Currently I am completing a BTEC Level 3 in
Games Design, where I have studied a variety of units closely linked to the
skills needed within gaming and have developed my knowledgeable about the industry.
From this is have gained skills in creating different types of sound, video
game art, 3D environments and basic programming. Furthermore, I am able to use programs
with 3D software to created my own environment, assets and models. In addition,
I have used Construct 2 the 2D game editor where I created multiple games that
had at least 1 playable level entities and created additional features into the
game such as power ups. From
this, I am able to use Photoshop where I created images such as my sprites and
backgrounds for the games I created since I was used to the software as I used
it at home frequently. Personally, I enjoyed creating the 2D games the most,
because it is the style that I think has a very nice effect overall as I have also
been inspired by many other 2D video games which I could use for future
inspiration. I believe that not all video games have to be 3D and realistic to
be enjoyable as I personally believe that the overall plot of the game is the
best thing about it. I think by having a wide variety of knowledge in games
will help me at university because I know what a game needs so that the player
can enjoy playing the game and not lose interest quickly. I have also
participated first aid which is very useful because I know what to do if
somebody was to collapse or become unconscious, which could result in saving
someone's life. Overall, I would like to use the experience I gain from
completing the course by gaining employment in the games industry where I use
all the knowledge I know from everything I have done related to the course and
use it in the future for the work that I plan to produce.
